Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about how SkyMark works, what we do, and how engagements start.

What does SkyMark Advisory Group do?

SkyMark Advisory Group is a ServiceNow consulting partner based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We help organizations that already own ServiceNow get more value from it, through platform advisory and strategy, governance, software asset management and licensing intelligence, and hands-on delivery. Our focus is not implementation for its own sake but making sure the platform is aligned to what the business is actually trying to achieve, now and as that changes.

Is SkyMark a certified ServiceNow partner?

Yes. SkyMark is a ServiceNow Select tier partner and holds both the ServiceNow Consulting & Implementation and ServiceNow Build partner designations. Our team holds ServiceNow certifications including Certified Technical Architect (CTA), Certified Implementation Specialist for Software Asset Management, Certified Application Developer, Certified System Administrator, and Accredited in Enterprise Architecture. Our status can be verified on the ServiceNow Partner Finder.

Where is SkyMark located, and who do you work with?

We are privately held and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and we work with organizations across Canada. Our client work to date spans mining, financial services, and technology, including industrial environments where both IT and operational technology (OT) matter.

How is SkyMark different from a large systems integrator?

Two ways. First, we are advisory-led rather than tool-led: we tell you what we think you should do, in plain terms, and we will push back when a request does not make sense. Second, you are not buying one named resource, you are getting access to a team with 60+ combined years of experience, including nearly 20 combined years working inside ServiceNow itself. SkyMark was founded in 2024 by former ServiceNow employees who wanted to build a different kind of partner: one that solves the hard problems and gives control back to the customer.

What does advisory-led actually mean in practice?

It means the engagement starts with your outcomes, not with a statement of work for a module. In delivery it shows up as two roles. A SkyMark Advisor is a senior expert who owns platform and governance strategy, roadmaps, architectural oversight, and technical mentorship. A SkyMark Technical Consultant is a cross-trained resource who handles configuration, break/fix, documentation and training, and provides flexible burst capacity. You get the right one at the right time rather than paying senior rates for routine work.

How does the subscription model work, and what happens if our plans change?

Platform Services is subscription-based rather than a fixed-scope project. That is deliberate: a change in plans should not mean a change in contract. Priorities move, discovery reveals things nobody predicted, and the subscription lets us redirect effort to whatever is actually most valuable that month instead of renegotiating. Software asset management works the same way, because SAM is a program rather than a one-time project.

Which ServiceNow products and modules do you work with?

Across our services we work with ITSM, ITOM including Discovery, Event Management and AIOps, Security Operations and Vulnerability Response, Software Asset Management (SAM Pro), Hardware Asset Management, IT Asset Management, Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Cost Management, CMDB and CSDM, IntegrationHub, Performance Analytics, Virtual Agent, Service Catalog, AppEngine, Workflow Data Fabric, and the AI portfolio including AI Control Tower, AI Agent Studio, EmployeeWorks and Now Assist. We also cover data governance and AI governance.

What is SkyControl?

SkyControl is SkyMark's own certified ServiceNow application, available on the ServiceNow Store. It brings strategic, demand and technical governance together in one place so you can plan, monitor and control the platform: roadmapping and capability mapping, demand intake and prioritization with audit trails, and platform health, compliance, technical debt and upgrade-readiness monitoring.

How do you reduce software licensing costs?

Organizations waste an average of 25 to 30 percent of their software spend on unused or underutilized licences, and our clients routinely see six-figure savings within the first year. We get there through deep entitlement and usage analysis, effective license positions (ELP) reviewed on a quarterly cycle, reclamation triggers, and renewal and negotiation intelligence for publishers including Microsoft, Oracle and SAP. The goal is a defensible audit position and fewer contractual blind spots, not just a tidier inventory.

Do you resell software licences?

No, and that is the point. We have no resale agreements clouding our recommendations, so our licensing advice is vendor-neutral. When we tell you to drop, consolidate or renegotiate something, we have no commercial interest in the answer.

We are not sure what is wrong with our ServiceNow instance. Can you help us work that out?

That is the usual starting point. The reasons ServiceNow is not delivering are close to impossible to predict from the outside, which is why we do not arrive with a fixed plan. A common symptom is the question why is ServiceNow so expensive, and the cause is rarely licensing alone. We start by finding the correct problems to solve, then move quickly to best-practice solutions and adapt as your organization reveals more about itself.
